Apply for the 2025-26 Inclusive History Project Student Advisory Committee

Inclusive History Project

Applications due April 7

The Inclusive History Project Student Advisory Committee engages students interested in the IHP’s wide-ranging efforts to study and reckon with the University of Michigan’s history and create a truly inclusive present and future. During the academic year, members lead and execute projects and meet with IHP leadership to provide feedback on the IHP’s historical research, engagement efforts, and plans for reparative actions. In addition, members attend IHP events and represent the project while building and maintaining connections between the IHP and student groups across our campuses.

We invite any student interested in contributing to the IHP’s work to apply.

IHP Mission

The Inclusive History Project is producing, studying, and sharing a wide-ranging history of the University of Michigan’s three campuses and Michigan Medicine. The IHP engages our campuses and neighboring communities to better understand the full history of our institution, including its record of inclusion and exclusion, and to propose reparative actions that stem from our past.

Composition & Eligibility

The 2025-26 Student Advisory Committee will be composed of 18 undergraduate and graduate students from the Flint, Dearborn, and Ann Arbor campuses, representing a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.

Only students who plan to enroll for the 2025-2026 academic year are eligible to apply.

Commitment

Members are expected to attend committee meetings twice a month during the academic year. Regular committee meetings will be held virtually.

The Fall 2025 orientation will be held in-person on the Flint, Dearborn, or Ann Arbor campus. The IHP will arrange transportation for members traveling between campuses to attend the orientation. In addition, the Student Advisory Committee is expected to play a significant role in next year’s IHP Summit, which will be hosted on the Flint campus in Winter 2026.

Committee members serve 1-year renewable terms and will be paid a stipend for their participation.

Benefits for Students

The Student Advisory Committee plays an important role in this foundational, tri-campus initiative focused on the history of U-M. Through their involvement, members:

  • Lead engagement projects
  • Collaborate with students from all three campuses
  • Interact with and learn from senior faculty and campus leaders
  • Build important skills for professional development

Application & Interview Timeline

We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2025-Winter 2026 committee. Applications are due on April 7, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants chosen for interviews will be notified before May.
